The Armory Exhibition, curated by Pedro de Almeida
“Szilvia György’s Discoveries Continued comprises a re-used timber crate sourced from fellow Armory artist-in-residence Tevita Havea, terracotta clay inherited from visiting Finnish artist Pia Manniko, and porcelain remnants of György’s ‘failed’ works of her more refined designs. Like half-excavated vertebrae in a paleontological finding, the work is reminiscent of the nearby historic Brickpit and signals. György’s deep respect for the re-use of nature’s materials is a positive feedback loop that engenders new work from old and embraces the element of risk as worthwhile in and of itself.”
